2008 was our 5th
and, argubley our best year in business. It brought you
unrivalled super shows such as "V", "Only
The Strong Survive" "Crazy Cruiser-2008"
and "Christmas Crunch" to mention just a few.
It saw ground breaking matches such as the Tornedo Cibernetico,
the development of tomorrows talent like Juice, Dylan Roberts,
Juggernaut, Chris Echo, Voodoo and more.
The in ring return of TJ Cain and emotional homecoming of
Joey Hayes were just two of the highlights from an unforgettable
year that also saw the twisting and turning path that Darkside,
Johnny Phere, Bubblegum and Dirk Feelgood all ventured down
in an attempt to become heavyweight champion.

match for Back With A Bang 2009 is the match that never
was at "Christmas Crunch" and is the shows Main
Event!
Debut
Match
Martin Kirby vs. "The Punk Rocket" Jack Toxic
A new year will see
some new faces on the roster, the first of which arrives
at GPW with much fan fare from many other companies all
over the UK. Martin Kirby joins the roster this year and
has been set a tough challenge to overcome on his debut
- "The Punk Rocket" Jack Toxic stands in his way
of starting off his GPW career with winning ways. Normally
a tag team wrestler, Alan Alan Alan Taskers man has a proven
record of being able to rise to the occasion in singles
competition. It was only last year when Toxic was among
the 8 finalists for Crazy Cruiser-8 tournament. But how
will he do against a man he has no prior meetings with?
Will Kirby be ready? It's a very evenly matched contest,
but who will come out on top?
First
Time Ever
Heresy vs. Chris Echo
2008 was a year to
forget for Heresy. Starting the year off by losing the British
title and finishing it off by losing a year long feud to
rival Si Valour. The last we saw of Heresy was a muttering
wreck on the floor of the Ballroom blaming everybody but
himself for his loss. Chris Echo however, had a break through
year in singles competition. Reaching the CC8 finals in
May with a broken wrist being the highlight of a wonderful
year. His quests to regain momentum since then though have
been left wanting. Unable to capture the British title from
Jac Domitrescu and failing to gain a No.1 Contenders spot
in December for the title leaves Echo with this year to
start all over again. However, it wont be easy. Former British
and Heavyweight Champion, Heresy stands in his way. But
what mental state will Heresy be in after an dissapointing
2008?
British Title No.1 Contenders Match
Dylan Roberts vs. Juice
Two of the brightest young UK stars clash in a battle to
become No.1 Contender. This meeting between the two has
potential to become a MOTY candidate, and it's only January!
In December, at GPW: "Christmas Crunch" it came
down to these two after a 4-way elimination for the contendership.
Roberts took Juice to the limit and so very nearly finished
2008 as No.1 Contender but it wasn't to be. However, the
young rookie is given another chance, this time in singles
competition to see if he can prise away the right to take
on champion "Super" Sam Bailey from reigning No.1
Contender and current CC8 champion - Juice. Do not miss
this one.
In addition to these matches, we will also see Dirk Feelgood
confront GPW Heavyweight Champion, Bubblegum in a special
interview following their epic title match at Christmas
Crunch.
And finally...
Eastern
Europe vs. Mexico
Jac Domitrescu w/ The Eastern Bloc vs. El Ligero
Another first time
ever... after a severe shoulder injury, El Ligero returns
for the first time. But this will no mean feat for the UK
Luchadore to overcome. Domitrescu, in his own right held
the British Title for many months and will not be alone
on the 16th. The former champ is always well supported by
his back up from fellow Eastern Bloc compatriots. All of
who i'm sure will be looking at starting their own year
off with a bang. A happy return for El Ligero? Or will the
numbers game of the Eastern Bloc prove too much?
Finally the Young
Offenders get their shot at the tag team gold. After making
a full recovery DDL returns to the ring to partner life
long friend Joey Hayes once again as the two launch their
bid to become tag champs in a first time ever 2/3 Falls
Tag Match. But they'll have to beat the team that have held
the titles since July 2007, Jiggy Walker and "The Model"
Danny Hope, the Mil-Anfield Connection. The duo have defined
the tag division over the last 18 months and have beaten
all challengers up to now. Something has to give. Will the
Young Offenders start 2009 off with a bang? Or will their
tag team challenge fizzle out against the well oiled Mil-Anfield
machine?
They'll be more matches announced this week, but expect
to see all the regulars such as Juice, Si Valour, Bubblegum,
Dirk Feelgood and Dylan Roberts plus many more in attendance.
The
show is Friday Jan 16th at our home of The Monaco Ballroom,
Atherton Road, Hindley Wigan WN2 3EU. Doors will be open
from 7pm, show starting at 7:30. Tickets are £7 per
person, £24 for a family of 4, groups and special
occasions are catered for. E-mail gpwrichardnoble@yahoo.co.uk
