I know we're a bit
behind on the blogs, but i'm hoping the break will give
me a chance to catch up and once i have, you'll be able
to see the reasoning behind the booking and why some things
have happened. Sometimes, things aren't that simple. And,
as i'm sure you're aware - no wrestler ever leaves the business
for good!
May 21st Garage Pro
Wrestling will present their third 30 MAN RUMBLE!!
30 men enter - 1 man leaves!
The winner of the
rumble will be determined No.1 Contender to the GPW Heavyweight
Title. There will be some announced names, but also
some surprises throughout the night. But, before we look
who's entering, the Rumble isn't the only thing happening
on May 21st... here's the rest of the card:
GPW
Heavyweight Title Match
Juggernaut © w/ Alan A.A Tasker vs. El Ligero |
In what promises
to be a match for the ages, No.1 Contender El Ligero takes
on dominant Heavyweight Champion - Juggernaut. After making
his GPW debut nearly 7 years ago - this will be Ligero's
first ever shot at the Heavyweight title, and whats more
- it will be against the man who put him out of action for
over 11 months.
On 20th March 2009 in the main event of GPW: "Livin'
On The Edge" it was the unleashed monster Juggernaut
who picked Ligero up and rammed him into the cold steel
ring post wrenching his shoulder out of place. Not content
with that, Juggernaut targeted the shoulder for the rest
of his attack. The injuries sustained were so severe, Ligero
was rushed to hospital and underwent well documented shoulder
surgery. Ligero finally returned to action on Feb 19th this
year, after initially coming up against competition from
Darkside, he ousted both Cameron Kraze and Martin Kirby
in a thrilling 3-way Eliminator to claim the No.1 Contendership.
Juggernaut, now in his 13 month as champion has beaten everybody
put before him - Ricky J. McKenzie, Martin Kirby, "Dangerous"
Damon Leigh and last month he destroyed Prof. Mike Holmes,
Skullcrusher, Nordic Warrior, "Mini Iron" Mike
and Vitamin C in one fail swoop. Ligero has never held a
singles title in GPW, he's never had a shot at the Heavyweight
title before - can El Ligero make history and get revenge?
Or will Juggernaut
stop him in his tracks?
GPW Tag Team Title No Holds Barred Match
The Mystics © vs. Paradise Lost |
The fun and games
are over. The situation between these two rival teams got
really serious when The Mystics surprised everyone with
a win at GPW: "Jam Hot!" and became new tag team
champions. However, they will have to defend their newly
won titles against the former champs in a No Holds Barred
tag match as Paradise Lost invoke their right to a re-match
clause.
The Mystics have playfully teased Paradise Lost all year,
getting under their skin enough that they took their eye
off the ball long enough Suzuki and Voodoo took the titles
off them. Paradise Lost were already out for blood at the
start of the year after blaming The Mystics for Heresy's
injury, but now they've lost the titles one can only wonder
what bad intentions they have on their mind. However, The
Mystics have come of age in this feud and have proved that
they are in no way to be taken lightly. The duo have gelled
well combining a mixture of comedy, teamwork and fluid tag
team wrestling to bring out the best in both men. You can't
help but feel a No Holds Barred plays in favour of the unorthodox
Paradise Lost, but The Mystics have surprised us before,
can they do it again and remain tag champions?

On One
Bruce Sheila vs. Jak Domitrescu |
Imagine a man so
disliked, the GPW faithful start to cheer for a group of
Eastern Europeans instead of him, then you've got Bruce
Sheila.
The Aussie born Sheila debuted earlier this year and immediately
made an enemy of the beloved Eastern Bloc. The boys from
the Bloc have made life hard for Sheila having rained on
his parade not once, but twice. Most notably when they,
with an assist from a Ginsters pie cost Bruce his debut
match against an inflatable crocodile affectionately known
as "The Eastern Croc". However, Bruce was able
to gain some measure of revenge last month when he rolled
up Jak Domitrescu for a 3 count whilst he had his feet on
the second rope for leverage. These two will now finally
settle their differences in a one on one. After all his
talk, this will be Bruce's actual first one on one match
at GPW. His opponent, a former GPW British Champion will
have the Monaco behind him but who will walk away with their
hand raised?
Main Event - The Rumble
30 Man Rumble for No.1 Contendership
You know the script by now - 30 men enter, 1 man leaves.
The winner will be named the No.1 Contender to the Heavyweight
title. There will be announced names and spaces left for
a handful of mystery entrants. Over the coming weeks, we'll
announce the names confirmed and looking at each persons
chance at winning, but first let's have a look at the numbers
game and some Rumble stats. It's all about the numbers...
It's no surprise that the latter numbers are the most influential
in the rumble, and it has been numbers 20 - 30 that have
proven to be the most important in our previous two rumbles.
Although, it is worth noting that whoever has drawn No.30
(Dom Travis in 2006 and "Super" Sam Bailey in
2007) in the past, has never won... the winning numbers
have been No.21 and No.26.
Bubblegum, the winner of the first 30 Man Rumble "A
Few Good Men" April 2006 drew No.21 and won. Heresy,
winner of the second 30 Man Rumble at "Friday Night
Thriller II" October 2007 drew No.26 and won.
No.13 is unlucky for some and the one that many will hope
to avoid, but if there's any number that's really unlucky
- it's No.11. It was the number poor old Benson Richards
drew in 2007. It was also the amount of seconds he lasted
in it... the shortest ever time in a rumble. In contrast,
the longest time ever lasted in the Rumbles has been an
iron man effort from Joey Hayes in 2006 who entered No.8
and lasted right down to the last 2, a total of 42 minutes
18 seconds.
Moth Man
The early numbers seemed to have produced some inspiring
efforts. Jack Toxic gained the plaudits in 2007 as he entered
No.4 and lasted an impressive 34 minutes 53 seconds. Other
mentions go to Kris Travis in 2006 who entered No.7 and
eliminated after 28 minutes 6 seconds. Chris Echo is a man
whose stamina in rumbles of the past should be mentioned.
He entered No.1 in 2006 lasting just shy of 25 minutes and
going just over 20 minutes in 2007 when entered No.17. Both
CJ Banks and Jiggy Walker have also put in notable performances.
But, will anyone set a new record this time? Here's a look
at some of the first confirmed names in the rumble, in no
particular order:
Danny Hope
Danny's stock rose yet again this year after coming out on
top in his feud with William Gáylord. A seasoned rumble
competitor he has appeared in both and was the winner of the
inaugural Last Chance Battle Royal in 2006. One half of the
longest reigning GPW Tag Team Champions, Danny wants to add
more gold to his name with a win here. Luck has been with
him with previous draws having entered No.25 in 2006 and No.18
in 2007. A good number here may be all Danny needs to win.
Ricky J. McKenzie
The fastest rising
star on the roster threw his name in the hat for the rumble
last month. Having already competed for the Heavyweight
title once this year, RJM is keen to get himself another
shot. This will be the first rumble appearance for Ricky
J. - with luck on his side, could this be the time for RJM?Jack
Toxic
After an eye catching
performance in 2007 entering No.4 and lasting 34 minutes
and 53 seconds, Jack Toxic will be hoping for a higher number
this year. Having already won a Last Chance Battle Royal
in 2008, Toxic has proven he has the tools to last in this
kind of environment. His leverage and low centre of gravity
surely make him an underdog in the 2010 Rumble.
Mark Kodiak
A series of haunting
video packages sent a message to GPW that after 3 years
away from The Ballroom, Mark Kodiak will return at this
years Rumble. The "Grizzly Renegade" last appeared
in June 2007 but drew No.2 in the 2006 Rumble. Never failing
to strike fear in the hearts of many, his pending return
has already rendered the same effect. The dynamic and impressive
Kodiak has promised to destroy the roster at the Rumble,
easily one of the favourites to win - what will happen when
Kodiak returns?
Mike Holmes
Skull Crusher
Nordic Warrior
Vitamin C
